While I was gone from the blog world, I lost a cousin in law to a heroin overdose. She had a baby girl who just turned one two weeks before her death.
Patrick is a cousin on my husband’s side, and Brittany was Patrick’s girlfriend for a few years. They recently broke up and Brittany was trying to get clean. She lost her fight and was found with a needle in her arm -- in a bathroom.
Patrick and Brittany lost custody of their little girl to Patrick’s parents. They were homeless and stealing from anyone they could. Both of them came to my door a few times, a wanted to stay. I had to say no. The last time I seen them, they said they had been walking all day, and were thirsty. My husband told them to use the hose in the yard. He would not let them in because they stole from another cousin of ours.
Two weeks later, Brittany left Patrick. She had been doing well, and sounded like she was on her way to leading a clean life. I started to see post on Face book about her going to the bar. I knew it would not be long before Brittany would put that needle back in her arm.
When an individual is able to get clean it is important they understand they cannot use anything.
When our mind is altered we do not make good decisions.
Brittany thought it was ok to drink a few beers, because her problem was not alcohol. She liked pills, and heroin. After the few beers, she went and got her a bag of heroin.
Maybe she would be alive today if she understood that simple rule to help stay clean.
Sorry you lost your battle Brittany here on Earth, but I know God gained a beautiful angel.
