I seen this book that said, Recovery in twelve SIMPLE steps. Simple my ass!!
When Big daddy got off Methadone and started group therapy I couldn't understand why it was taking him so long to get through the steps. I mean really, how hard could it be? Well let me be the first to tell you it's hard but very rewarding.
I remember grabbing his na workbook and thought to myself, I'll show him how this is done. I got through the book pretty quick. I learned I'm to giving and I don't like to say no and I want everyone to like me. Lets just say if you learned something like that doing your 12 steps wrong and you might want to start over again. It took me another year to pick that book up again and I finally got it right.
Step 1, ADMIT I HAVE A PROBLEM. How am I going to admit I have a problem when I am not an addict? I'm perfect so this was hard.:)
After some hard thinking I finally jotted down some minor flaws and the writing began. My entire life story. Things I never understood made complete sense to me. I learned about resentments and why i had these resentments then I learned forgiveness.
Resentments are the cause for all of our flaws, our dysfunctional life's, our addictions. I'm not a addict, and if you are able to finish this workbook, I promise it will change your life. Addict or not. I'm not going to lie, this is hard to do. I stayed in bed for 3 weeks depressed over the things I learned about myself. When I finished, I understood why Big Daddy is having such a hard time. Nobody likes to admit their own flaws or face things that happened to them but I promise anyone who works through this book it will be set free.
I do plan on scanning the pages and posting them here but that is going to take some time. So if your white, black, Hispanic, a doctor, lawyer, or just your average Joe, I challenge you to do this book. Don't think too much about the title, all 12 steps are the same. Its called The Narcotics Anonymous Step Working Guides. EVEN IF YOUR NOT ADDICTED TO ANYTHING, DO THE BOOK. Living with an addict? Do the book. I already know that 80 percent will not be able to get pass chapter one but maybe try it again in another year.
RIP 18-year-old Vanna Barton, Heroin overdose.
